Weeding and Watering, Harvesting and Sharing

Weeding is really hard work.  Especially when the sun is hot! And the garden takes a whole lot of water to keep it green and the produce coming. This week we harvested string beans. a little lettuce and CUCUMBERS!

CUCUMBERS, CUCUMBERS!!
We've Got

Tending to Our Garden...

Cookie found this great reminder for caring for our garden. It's also a reminder for tending to our lives!  It makes for a wonderful addition. And tomorrow, a day of weeding. In the garden that is.

Maybe, after pulling up some of the weeds in our garden, we'll pull up some of the weeds that are tangling up our lives.

And...

In spite of some weeds, our garden is abundant!

In spite of some weeds, our garden is quite beautiful.

In spite of our weeds, our garden is forgiving.

And, in spite of our weeds, our garden has still provided us with treasure, beyond measure.

Just wait 'till we get rid of those WEEDS!!

An Invitation from Amy - We're Excited!

YOU are an integral part of an exciting movement that has been gaining momentum in and around Atlantic County.
We would like to invite you to join with other partners and participants on Wednesday, June 8 from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the ACUA’s Recycling Center at 6700 Delilah Road.
You are contributing to the growth and success of Urban, Community and School Gardens in our area and in doing so, you are helping to promote the myriad benefits gardening offers; introducing fresh, affordable produce to encourage healthy eating and good nutrition, hands on environmental education, community building, improved health and exercise, stress reduction, a creative outlet, and a link to nature, among many others..
While the benefits of gardening clear, even the most experienced gardeners face challenges. Planning, planting, insects, weeds, weather, watering, soils, site selection, tools, resources, manpower – there’s a lot to know and a lot of variables influencing the success of your project!
Knowing that you are not alone and what resources are available is essential.  Please join us to connect and support each other by sharing information with others in the area to strengthen and grow this amazing community of gardeners, educators, advocates, activists and citizen stewards.
Please respond to let us know if you can attend, and email or call with any questions or concerns. This meeting is open to all interested parties, so please share this invitation!
Thanks – hope to see you on Wednesday, June 8!

Bedding the Plants

April 30th proved to be the busiest work day to date.  The plants were picked up early and arrived before some of us were even out of bed! Thanks to Earle Hill.

Cookie Till again fortified the troops with yummy muffins. Joan Manning Hill brought fruit and juice.

Brian arrived with irrigation parts.

And...  all these wonderful volunteers made light work with their laughter, enthusiasm, joyful hearts and did I mention their willing hands!
